Wedding videomaker at Villa Kimera.
Mosquitoes and rain but I keep going.
This is the story of Mariagrazia and Mattia, summer 2023, in Cuneo. A young and beautiful couple, Alice Centolanza at photography, and a day that before starting had already decided to test me — with mosquitoes, with rain, and with a blue kway worn under the elegant hat. Then the newlyweds arrived and it stopped raining. As if they knew.
The wedding of Mariagrazia and Mattia at Villa Kimera, Cuneo
Villa Kimera it is a 17th century noble residence in Cuneo, built in 1667 as the summer residence of the Caissotti family of Chiusano – those who hosted Carlo Emanuele III, King of Sardinia, here in 1744. The decorated ceilings, the library with ancient volumes, the loggia overlooking the Bisalta, the rose garden, the swimming pool immersed in the park: it is the type of place that does not need to be explained, just open a door.
Before the ceremony we went for a couple’s shoot at Parco di Villa Tornaforte, in Cuneo – a historic park with centuries-old trees and a lake, several times nominated for FAI’s Places of the Heart. Mariagrazia and Mattia were exactly as I expected them: young, at ease in front of the camera, with that naturalness that cannot be taught. What I didn’t expect were the mosquitoes. There were so many. They ate me alive while they seemed invisible to the insects — the privilege of newlyweds, I guess.
Villa Kimera, the rain and the blue kway
Arriving at the location it started to rain. I pulled out the blue kway — the one that doesn’t match anything, let alone a fancy hat — and waited. Alice Centolanza, who usually photographs interiors and architecture and who evidently has nerves of steel, was already on station as if it weren’t raining at all. When Mariagrazia and Mattia arrived the sky had already recovered. The park of Villa Kimera shone. The shots were perfect.
As a wedding videomaker at Villa Kimera in Cuneo I know that the best days often start off badly. The rain, the mosquitoes, the wrong kway — it all disappears when the newlyweds enter the gate. That’s why we get there first.
